Projects
Successful applications of sensor technology include the management of water systems (continuous measurement and recording of all movements of water and silt in the Waddenzee), the management of energy grids, and the monitoring of environmental conditions (the Eems Dollard estuary and the Waddenzee). Dyke monitoring on the IJkdijk and precision agricultural techniques (Watersense and the seed potato cultivation method) are two other projects now in full swing. A further 15 projects are already in the pipeline. Where these projects make use of subsidy schemes, 50% of project costs is in every case is contributed by private parties in the relevant clusters. The total amount involved in these projects is more than € 100 million.
Sensor Universe is the operational driving force behind two national IIP programs: Sensornetworking (with TU Twente) and Water & Sensors (with NWP and TTI Wetsus). One element of these programs involves steering in the field of sensor technology at the national level, with the participation of such familiar names as ASML, Philips, Centric, ESI, Van Holst Institute, Smart Surroundings, TNO, KWR (formerly KIWA Water Research), Paques, Siemens, Vitens, Waterleidingmaatschappij Drenthe, Waterleidingbedrijf Groningen, Waterleidingbedrijf Noord-Holland and Unilever.
